Staircase RecapThe assembly of the staircase is a big job that, in our case, required both precision craftsmanship and some cooperative teamwork. Following is a summary of the process, as seen in this installment of Blog Cabin.
Assembling a Staircase: A Balance of Art and Science- Once the stair stringers have been created, the notches for the stair treads are cut into the stringers using a hand-held router (figure A). Each notch has to be cut to a precise size, angle and distance apart so that each stair is spaced properly and level.
- The individual stair treads, are also cut to precise dimensions with a mortise-and-tenon design. Once the treads and notches are all cut, the treads are individually positioned in the stringer tapped into place (figure B).
With all of the treads inserted, the second stringer is put into position (figure C). The completed assembly (figure D) is clamped securely, and is carefully moved into position for installation.
The Blog Cabin team carefully lifts the staircase assembly into position (figure E), and it is secured from above with straps (figure F).
