Blog Cabin, Webisode 2: Installing a Window- Choose a window. Consider the size to match the rough window size in your home. Also consider the style of the room it will be in.
- Double check the measurements of the window and the opening before installing
- Install windows from outside. Push the window in until the flashing is flush to the window frame
- Center the window from the inside with a pry-bar.
- After centering, check for plumb and level (with level vertical).
- Make sure there is room between vertical sides of the window and rough opening for adjustment, if needed.
- Outside, nail the flashing in around the window, into the framing.
- Inside, adjust to plumb as nailing is finished.
- Next, shim between the window and the framing (on all sides).
- Pack insulation firmly in the gaps between the window and the frame, alongside and between shims.
- Now you're ready to drywall and trim around the window.
