    Country Cabinets

An added bonus in this kitchen are the glass doors on the cabinets. Golden plans to add more color and accent the light-green walls by creating curtains for the cabinet interiors.

    1. Measure width of cabinet door (figure A). When buying fabric, double that width to give the cabinet curtain plenty of fullness.

    2. Attach eye screws into the cabinet (figure B).

    3. Run a piece of twine through the fabric casing and secure with a knot (figure C).

Note: For this project, 3 yards of fabric was used. Measurements can vary according to how tight you wish the gathers or pleats to be.

Expert idea: Floral or checked patterns worked well in a country kitchen.

    4. Cinch the middle of the curtain with a contrasting fabric "belt" (figure D).

One of the things that Golden plans to do to this kitchen is to incorporate some of the homeowner's favorite things, such as a recipe for homemade ice cream. To that end, she plans to create an entire focal wall using this recipe.

    1. To transfer a favorite recipe into a focal wall, type the recipe and print it out using computer paper.

    2. Take the printout to a copy store and have it printed onto a transparency.

    3. Transparency machines can be rented from various places. Set up the machine in the kitchen and adjust the transparency as needed.

    4. Using acrylic paint and a medium-size round-tip brush, copy over the lettering onto the wall (figure E).

    5. To bring the metallic color and texture of the tin ceiling to eye level, Golden changes the kitchen hardware from white knobs to brushed-nickel handles.
