Brad Staggs, host of DIY's Home Repair & Remodeling, makes a custom cutting board.

    Materials:

    Sink-rim edge (figure A)
Cutting board (size of your choice)
    Tape
    Marker
    Safety glasses/goggles
    Jig-saw and blade
    Scrap lumber
    Screws or glue (your choice)

    1. Apply tape in the shape of the sink-rim edge to the top of the counter (figure B).

    2. Outline the tape with a marker. Make the line around the inside of the sink-rim edge.

    3. Cut the outlined shape with a jig-saw blade. Be sure to wear safety glasses/goggles.

    4. Glue or screw some scrap lumber to both sides of the counter underside (figure C) to support the cutting board.

    5. Trim the cutting board to size to fit into the counter.

    6. Cut a slot on either side of the board (figure D). This slot is to be used for food scraps. Be sure to place a garbage can under the slot.

    7. Secure the sink-rim edge.
