Use easels to display favorite plates. You can even display Grandma's chipped china: from a distance, no one will see small imperfections.

If you're looking for more decorating space in your kitchen, just look up. Home-improvement expert Chris DeJulio shows how space above cabinets is often perfect for accessories such as favorite collectibles, family treasures and plants. An above-cabinet grouping of kitchen keepsakes will keep your kitchen clutter-free and display your favorite things in a unified way.

First, measure the height of the space between the cabinets and ceiling, and find items that will fit. Place larger items in the back, smaller ones in front. Small items might need a boost with a piece of scrap wood.

Use easels to display plates and drape doilies over the edge of the cabinet for texture. Plants are another great decorative item for placement above kitchen cabinets. Choose silk plants to avoid the weekly cabinet climb necessary for maintaining living plants.
