    Materials:

    hammer
    tape measure
trim nail gun with 2-1/2" finish nails to attach the crown molding
    nail set
    compound miter saw
    safety glasses
    pencil
    wood glue
    coping saw
    stud finder
    framing square
    utility knife
    wood putty
    acrylic Caulk
    chalk line

    Expert Tips:

    • Start with a plan. The team determines the order in which each piece of molding will go up around the room by drawing a plan view of the room on paper. If the molding you're using isn’t pre-finished from the store, be sure to paint or stain it ahead of time and let it dry before installation.

    • To determine how much molding to buy, measure each wall, round up to the next foot, and mark those measurements on a planview sketch of the room you're working in. If one wall measures within a few inches of the length of a full piece of crown, buy the nextlonger length. When the wood arrives at the site, number the back of each piece with a pencil to correspond with the numbers indicated on your planview drawing.
