    The Red Team discusses its winning design with host Ed Del Grande.

    The Blue Team discuss its equally creative and well-executed construction: it needed only a point to tie the Red Team!

    Red Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.)

    • The teams secures the wedge pieces to the rim-edged supports (figure A).

    • Next, the team screws the palm leaves to the 4 x 4 trunks using a strong tie. Piece of wood are cut in the shape of bananas and coconuts, the painted and nailed to the top of the tree trunks.

    • Set completed palm trees into two corners of the frame so taht they lean against both the frame and corner bracings.

    • A sign is cut from plywood and painted to read "CB Oasis" before being nailed to one of the palm trees (figure B).

    • To complete the project, the team fills the frame with sand.
    Blue Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.)

    • The team attaches the crow's nest to the 4 x 4 mast.

    • A cannon is created by cutting a hole on each side of the middle section of the boat and inserting piping. Two pieces of molding are then nailed to each side of the pipe.

    • Rope molding is nailed to the top edges of the boat and sand is added to the boat (figure C).

    • A steering wheel is created from four prefabricated furniture legs and painted black before being nailed to the mast (figure D).

    Score Summary:

    Time's up, the tools are down, and the projects are ready for the judges' inspection.

    The judges were torn over the two teams' ocean-themed designs. In the end, the Red Team received the highest score.

    Red Team: 270 points
    Blue Team: 269 points
