    Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The Red Team cuts two 29" long corner braces from 1 x 6s (45-degree angles on each end) then nails them inside the 90-degree corners of the frame.

    • Two 22-1/2" angle braces are cut from the rounded 4x4's and nailed in the same corners above the other braces (figure A). These will help secure the palm trees in place later.

    • Next, the team cuts four 9' 2 x 6s and cut the corners of one side of each one. These pieces are secured to the outside of the frame where the 4 x 4 corner braces meet the frame.

    • Shards of wood are stapled onto the 3' long palm leaf pieces to support the cloth palm leaves that will be added (figure B).

    • The team sprays contact adhesive onto the 4 x 4s, then dusts the surface with sawdust to have the texture of tree trunks.

    • A rim is created to fit around the rooftop portion of the frame. The beach pieces will later rest on these.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The team cuts two 2 x 4s and nails from one end of the 2 x 6 to the other.

    • The bow and stern pieces are nailed to the 2 x 6s on the middle of the boat and are supported by two 2 x 4 cross braces on each side.
