    Red Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 1 a.m.)

    • The Red Teams wants a tropical look for their projets -- complete with a simulated beach, dock and palm trees. To get started, the team cuts three 6' 2 x 6s. Two of them will have angled cuts on one end. Next, the team cuts two 23" 2 x 6s with angled cuts on each end, and an additional piece of 2 x 6 approximately 4' long.

    • The team sets the 2 x 6s on the floor into a frame and secures them with nails. The frame will resemble a house with the tip of the roof missing.

    • Twelve 3' 2 x 2s are cut from 2 x 4s. Six pieces are added to each of two metal rooftop strong ties. This will make up the top of the palm trees (figure A).

    • With the tablesaw, the team cutx the corners off of two 4 x 4s. These will serve as the trunks of the palm trees.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

    • The Blue Team envisions a sandbox in the shape of a ship, complete with mast, oar and canons. To get started, the Blue Team cuts two 1' x 4' side pieces from 3/4" plywood (figure B).

    • Four 4' 2 x 6s are cut and nailed between the two side pieces as floor supports (figure C).

    • Next, the team cuts four 54" long pieces to serve as the bow and stern of the boat. The pieces curve down from 18" on one side two 1' on the other.
