    • Next, the team cuts four 2 x 8s into 6'8" lengths. Each piece is measured and cut from the corner of one end diagonally to 4" from the corner of the other end (figure A). The larger pieces created from these cuts will be the side supports/legs for the shelving units.

    • Cut two 3' 2 x 4s, two 4.5' 2 x 4s and two 5.5' 2 x 4s. These will be the front and rear shelf supports for each shelf.

    • Cut eight 15" 2 x 4s. These will be the side and middle shelf supports (figure B).

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The Blue Team cuts a 23.5" x 4' piece of plywood for the bottom of the cupboard.

    • Assemble the top, bottom, back and side pieces so that each piece fits with the corresponding dado cut. Attach with a nail gun.

    • Create a frame from the 1 x 4s cut earlier and screw it into the bottom of the cupboard (figure C).

    • Iron on wood veneer to cover front edges of plywood.

    • Begin cutting a crown shaped piece of wood for the top/side of the cupboard (figure D). Put a dado cut along the bottom edge and a 45-degree cut along the side.
