    Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The Red Team is a well-oiled framing machine. They measure, cut and assemble four more 2 x 4 frames and connect them to make two L-shaped units.

    • Then, the L-shaped frames are attached to the front right side and the rear right side of the main frame to create an entranceway.

    • Additional 2 x 4 frames are made for the corners of the patio bar and their ends trimmed at 45-degree and 35-degree angles so that each piece is flush (figure A).

    • The Red Team uses still more 2 x 4 frames to support the corners of their main frame and then cuts and attaches sheets of 1/2-inch plywood to the sides of their bar (figure B).

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The team measure, cuts and assembles two 2 x 4 frames around the pre-made cabinets in the shape of an "L."

    • A sheet of 1/2-inch plywood is measured, cut and attached with finishing nails to cover the open space between the two cabinets in the long section of the "L" (figure C).

    • Next, the team adds 2 x 4 studs around the patio bar frame and secures them with Simpson strong ties for extra support (figure D).

    • Floor joists are cut from 2 x 4s and added to the corner when the two frames meet. Braces are fitted between the studs and secured with framing ties.
