    Red Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.)

    • The team decides to fill in the spaces between the 1 x 2 supports with a variety of materials. Each material must match the curves of the plywood top. First, they measure and cut a piece of copper sheet, then sheet metal, then decorative metal mesh and lastly clear, tinted plastic.

    • On the other side, they measure , cut and attach four pieces of decorative molding with leaf designs to fit between each 1 x 2 support.

    • Finally, they measure and cut eight pieces of corner molding. These pieces are attached to cover the seams where each 1 x 2 meets the plywood front.

    • As the clock winds down, the Red Team quickly traces and paints the Warehouse Warriors logo to add to the side of their divider (figure A).

    Blue Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.)

    • When the blue paint on the panel dries, the team adds a white rectangle to serve as a basketball backboard. They cut the top off of a red bucket for the rim and pieces of rope are attached for the net (figure B). They even add a post using black paint.

    • The team is not feeling overly confident about the construction of their base. They momentarily decide to cover the structure with black fabric, then think better of it. Instead, they just paint the base black.

    • They do decide to try and dress up the backside of their divider . They quickly cut and attach burgundy fabric (figure C). The fabric is tied and draped like a curtain to resemble a theatre stage.

    Score Summary:

While Red Team was praised for their unique design, use of materials and solid construction, it was the playfulness of the Blue Team's room divider that really impressed the judges. The creative design and interactivity of their project earned them a narrow victory.
