    • The corners of each of the four 1 x 6s are cut at a 45-degree angle to allow the pieces to be assembled into a rectangle (figure A).

    • After cutting two sheets of 1/4-inch plywood to size, the team fits the plywood panels into the dado cuts in their 1 x 6s (figure B). With the lumber and plywood fitted properly, the box is nailed together with the nail gun.

    • Decorative rope molding is cut to size and nailed along the inside lip of the box. The molding covers the seams of the dado cut.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The team cuts a swatch of green felt for a bulletin board on the top portion of their paneling. The felt is attached using a pneumatic staple gun.

    • Next, they paint the other plywood panel black (figure C). After painting wooden letters white, green, red, yellow and black, they attach the letters near the chalkboard with a glue gun (figure D).

    • While the checkerboard gets some touchups with a small paintbrush and a black marker, four 4 x 4s are cut with the chop saw and their ends angled off.
