Red Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.) - When the last of the plywood backing is added to the main frame, the team paints the frame white. Custom-painted butterfly coat hooks are screwed into the white side of the dowel frame and brass hooks into the red.
- Next, the completed dowel frame is fitted into the main frame and screwed into place (figure A).
- The Red Team fashions a cabinet door from 1/2-inch plywood to cover the top left compartment of the main frame. The door is attached using metal hinges and screwed into place.
- Once the pre-made coat rack is added inside, all that remains is hot-gluing a small mirror to the front of the cabinet door (figure B).
Blue Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.) - The team realizes that in order for their bench lid to both fit flush and have enough room to open, it must be cut into two pieces. They make their cut from left to right four inches from the back of the coat rack. Then, the two pieces of the lid are attached with a piano hinge (figure C).
- When the bench and lid have been nailed to the top of the storage box, they paint the body of the sea monster green using a stone-textured spray paint (figure D). They choose pink for the spikes.
- They finish their paint job by painting the box blue, the pegs and bench lid yellow and the monster's feet green. Finally, knobs are screwed into place to serve as the monster eyes and as extra coat hooks.
