    • The wood is stained with a clear poly stain and green fabric is fitted for the bed linens (figure A).

    • A treetop design is drawn onto a copper sheet and cut out with a band saw (figure B). Next, the copper is attached to the headboard.

    • By the time a few 2 x 4s are placed across the frame to hold the mattress, this team has earned a good night's rest!

    Blue Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.)

    • Bedpost tops are added using 4 x 4 blocks and then each is finished with a sanding block.

    • The headboard and footboard receive additional cherry trim pieces and the bed is stained with a dark rosewood stain (figure C).

    • After a bit more sanding and nailing a couple of 1 x 4s to the bedposts for stability, the Blue Team has made their bed ... and they're ready for the judges!

    Score summary:

The judges felt the Blue Team had built a solid, traditional bed and praised its dark finish and construction. But, it was the Red Team's creativity that really impressed the judges. They loved the angles and curves in the headboard plus the use of copper and tile accents. Red score higher on all three judges' scorecards to claim the victory.
