    Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The team uses a jigsaw to cut an opening for the refrigerator in one of the plywood sides of the ark (figure A).

    • After aligning the two side of the table, they use a nail gun to attach 2 x 4 braces between the sides. The braces are attached vertically and horizontally to provide support and to serve as a platform for the refrigerator (figure B).

    • The team cuts 1/2" plywood with the table saw to make 23 x 28" panels to cover the sides of the refrigerator and to support the tabletop.

    • Additional braces are added to the top and bottom. Plywood is then attached to the inner side of the braces with a nail gun.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The Blue Team begins assembling its glass blocks. The sides of the table are two blocks wide by three blocks high. The front and back are three blocks wide by three blocks high. The top and bottom blocks of each side are fitted into the white tracking attached to the wood. To attach blocks together, white pre-cut tracking is put in between each block and caulked in the middle (figure C). Clamps are used to hold in place while drying.

    • A jigsaw is used to cut the freehand "amoeba" shape from 1-inch birch plywood. This will be their tabletop (figure D).

    • Four pieces of 1 x 4 oak are cut for the top of the base. Two are cut to 23 inches for the sides and two are cut to 25 inches for the front and back. The ends are mitered and each piece is attached to the top with finishing nails. The holes are pre-drilled with a drill.

    • The edges of the wood in the base are sanded and then stained with English Oak stain.
