    Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

    • With their project starting to come together, the team gathers a sink, cabinets and other accessories.

    • Next, plywood is measured, cut and nailed to the island for the tabletop.

    • After measuring the sink, a hole is cut in the tabletop with a jigsaw and the sink is lowered into place (figure A).

Ed's tip: There are two main types of outdoor grills you can choose. The first is a propane grill with a portable tank. The other type uses natural gas coming from your kitchen. Natural gas grills should be hooked up by a licensed professional pipe fitter. You can dress up pipes running from the house to the patio in a few easy steps. This will also help prevent rust:

    • Rub oil on it
    • Scruff it up with a sanding block (figure B)
    • Cover with a paint primer
    • Cover with a finish paint

    Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m.- 3 p.m.)

    • The team pre-drills holes into their decking and then screws the boards to the bottom frame (figure C). Angle brackets are attached to the bottom of the 4x4 posts and the top of the decking boards for added strength.

    • Side braces are made from two 1x6s cut to 36 inches in length and attached to the posts. 12-inch 2x4s lend extra support by being nailed to both the posts and the braces.
