    • More 2x6s -- pressure-treated, of course -- are cut and assembled into eight additional 12-foot pieces and attached inside the platform to support the floor.

    • The team chooses 12-foot decking boards for their floor and nails 27 pieces to the frame. A hand saw is used to remove any excess.

    • More pressure-treated 4x4s and 1x4s are measured and cut to create two side frame supports that are attached to 4x4 posts (figure A).

    • The posts and sides are arranged into a diamond shape to create the center island where people will sit. One end is left open for entry into the middle (figure B).

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • After using lag bolts to attach 4x4 posts to the floor joists, 2x4s are nailed to the posts to create structure sides.

    • The team decides to change the cabinet hardware and replaces the factory pulls with specialty handles (figure C).

    • Composite decking boards are measured and cut with a circular saw to form the kitchen's middle section. Each board is one of three lengths: 64 inches in the front, 72 inches in the middle and 58 inches in the back.
