Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The Red Team uses a sanding clock to "brush" the copper petals, taking away the shine and leaving an antique appearance.
- The frame is nailed together with a nail gun (figure A).
- Next, small leaf shelf templates are made and traced onto plywood remnants. The shapes are cut with a scroll saw.
- Petals are painted with a yellow wash and the tops of the "pots" are nailed into their respective frame.
- The countertop is cut and the sink is used to measure the opening that will be cut.
- Semi-circles are cut from the supporting 2 x 4s to accommodate the addition of the sink.
- Six circles are cut for the tops of the flowers, and the "stems" are painted with a green wash.
- The countertop is nailed to the structure (figure B) and the sink and drain is installed.
- Leaf shelves are painted with green wash, and the flower centers are painted red.
- Petal supports are cut and painted with green wash.
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The Blue Team cuts a circle for the sink in the plywood countertop support, then adds the plywood support to the frame (figure C).
- The intricate wheel pattern in polished on both wheels, then outer banding is applied.
- Next, the team applied side braces and the flower stem handles to the cart.
- Wheels are attached to the axle and tested on the cart for a secure fit (figure D).
