    Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

    • With this team, no detail is going unnoticed! First, the Red Team rips 1 x 6s into 1 x 1-1/8" pieces to be used as nailing strips. Nailing strips are attached to the base frame with a staple gun.

    • Then, fabric triangles are sewn together to fit over the frame.

    • Plywood pieces that were previously cut to 4'x 7' and 15" x 7' are added to the top of the base and secured to the nailing strips to create a deck.

    • Next, the team adds nail strips along the underside of the deck.

    • A circular saw is used to cut boarder pieces. The pieces are attached to the deck with glue and a nail gun. The team carefully checks placement, making sure excess boarder hangs above and below the deck. Boarders and corners are sanded.

    • Then, holes are drilled into deck corners to accommodate the copper canopy pipes (figure A). The team inserts the 7' pipes into the holes and sets the canopy frame. The eye bolt screw falls through a fitting to secure the frame to the posts.

    • A smaller hole is drilled into the copper pipes at the center of the cross. Screws secure the piping.

    • The white canopy is draped over the frame (figure B), then flags are attached to dowels and inserted through the center canopy pole.

    • The team flips the bed over and attaches batting along the boarder. The batting is stapled to the deck underside. Patterned fabric is attached along the boarder and base frame.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

    • The Blue Team -- equally attentive to the smallest detail -- measures carpet and cuts it precisely to the inner dimensions of the drawer. Handles are added to the front of the drawer.

    • Next, the team begins completion of the remaining side of the frame. First, 2 x 4s are attached to remaining post notches using Simpson strong ties.

    • Remnants of 2 x 2s are drilled into the front and inside the back frame for additional mattress support.

    • Red oak 1 x 4s are cut to varying dimensions and are added to front and sides of the frame.

    • The plywood piece with wheels is drilled to the bottom of the floor (figure C).

    • Angled corner supports are cut from 2 x 2 remnants and added to each corners.

    • Then, the team adds extra frame supports to the inner frame (figure D).
