    Red Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 1 a.m.)

    • After inspecting the warehouse supplies and designing a canopy design utilizing copper tubing, the Red Team gets to work. First, the team uses a table saw to rip 4' x 8' plywood into four pieces measuring 15-3/4" x 8'. These will be cut to size later.

    • Next, the team uses a pipe cutter to cut copper piping into four pieces measuring 7' long. These pieces will become the corner bedposts.

    • Then, yellow fabric is cut for flags (figure A).

    • The team cuts the plywood pieces down to 15-3/4" x 42", then makes a template for the deck of bed.

    • Rope chalk is used to mark the bed dimensions of 7' x 62".
    Blue Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

    • The Blue Team designs an enclosed structure that will resemble a tree house. A storage drawer will be added beneath the bed. The team first measures the mattress, then gets started.

    • First, five round decorative pieces are attached to the bottoms of five 4 x 4 posts.

    • The posts are measured and marked for notches, which are cut using a circular saw. The guard is re-set at 1-1/2", then locked in place before cutting. A cut is made at the end of the area to be notched, then wood is removed in the middle using a series of cuts (figure B). A hammer and chisel are used to remove any remaining wood.
