Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) - The Red Team members raise the wall frames, then test the room for telescope accommodation. The team decides to add space with the addition of 22" wall spacers (figure A). Each piece is angled to 45 degrees to fit smoothly against the top surface of the walls.
- Spacers are nailed into place to complete construction of the frame.
Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) - Although the Blue Team isn't working as quickly as the Red Team, they are completing each step with precision. First, the team measures, then uses the miter saw to cut two pieces of 2 x 4 pressure-treated lumber to 89" each.
- The pieces are used to begin construction of a slightly larger rectangular frame. The two 94" pieces (figure B) are nailed close together into the middle of the second frame to add support. One piece is nailed near the end, then remaining four pieces are added at equal distances.
- The team re-measures, then scales down the frames before measuring and cutting six more 2 x 4s at 58-1/2".
- Next, the team measures and four pieces of 2 x 4 lumber to 33-1/2".
- Two 58-1/2" pieces and two 33-1/2" pieces are nailed together to form a rectangle.
- Then, the team marks the center of the frame and nails a piece measuring 58-1/2" in the center of the frame.
- Remaining wood is used to build a smaller rectangle, then all frames are nailed together.
- With all the frames connected, the team attaches the two smallest on one end of the wall, with the center left open as the doorway.
