Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The four sides of the hanger are assembled (figure A) and secured with screws.
- Then, the team measures and cuts T1-11 plywood and drills the panels to hanger sides (figure B).
- A headdress is created for the hanger doors. A 2 x 4 piece of pine is cut to 70" than placed as an extra piece atop each doorway.
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - After the team has built the wall frames for the hanger's nose area, it attaches the 43" angled sides to the 7' end of the main walls.
- Next, the team attached the back wall frame and uses a table saw to cut the sides for the door.
- A temporary brace is nailed along the wall frames, then particle board is cut to fit (figure C) between two 2 x 8s to create a header.
- The header is nailed across the top of the 8' high end, then the team nails two 2 x 4s next to the corner beams at the front of the structure.
- Metal corner strap braces are nailed across the top corners for more support (figure D).
- Vertical beams are nailed to the 28-1/2" pieces along the base, then 2 x 4s are nailed across the top of the entire frame.
- Then, the team nails T1-11 plywood sheets to the frames to complete the walls.
