Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The Red Team sands the cabinet drawers, then stains with polyurethane in honey pine.
- PVC pipes are secured to the underside of the workstation's center with L-brackets and screws (figure A).
- Low voltage lights are added underneath the desk to facilitate the addition of lights on top.
- The team assembles and attaches the keyboard shelf.
- Sheet metal is cut to the width of the side panels (figure B), then trimmed with tin snips. The metal panels are nailed into place with roofing nails.
- The cabinet drawers -- now dried -- are replaces, and desktop edges are sanded with the power hand sander.
- Molding is miter-cut to outline the desktop edges.
- Molding is attached with a staple gun and wood filler is used to fill any splits.
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - One of the drawers -- which was too large for the cabinet framing after modifications -- is resized to fit.
- A small piece of wood is used to create a footstool. Green fabric and batting are cut to fit, then wrapped around the piece and secured on the underside with staples (figure C). Small legs are added to complete the footstool, and the legs are underside of the footstool are stained.
- Then, the teams bevels the cabinet doors, and cuts a curved piece for the left wing of the desktop. Biscuit cuts and jointers are used to adjoin the left wing and middle section of the desktop. Glue is added for additional strength.
- The right wing of the desktop is also cut with a curve and secured into place. The right wing is secured with biscuit jointers and glue.
- Brackets secure the desktop to the cabinet bases, and beadboard is added to the side of the cabinets (figure D).
