    Red Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 1 a.m.)

    • After deciding on a two-level bar design with a sink, the team gets ready to build. First, the team starts with unfinished cabinets, adding a cabinet face and shelf between the base cabinets (to house a mini- refrigerator).

    • A 2" x 4" forms a shelf (figure A) that connects the two cabinets.

    • After constructing the base, the team cuts a 1" x 6" piece of poplar for the front of cabinet (figure B)

    Blue Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

    • The Blue Team designs a two-level, u-shaped bar with a raised serving area and a sink. The team starts with a 3' x 5' unfinished plywood base.

    • Starting with unfinished cabinets, the team measures and cuts plywood to rest on top of the base cabinets and act as a countertop support. A 36" x 59-1/4" section is cut from the plywood and secured to the base cabinets (figure C)

    • After securing the plywood, the team cuts plywood for sides and backs of cabinets (figure D), then secures to the base.

Ed's Tip: Before soldering joints, first do a little prep work. Use emery or sandpaper to sand the connection areas, then use a reamer to sand the inside of valves. Before connecting the pieces, smear Plumbing Flux on both areas. Join the pieces, then use a torch to heat the joint. Use lead-free solder on copper pipe joints.
