Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) - With a sturdy support base in place, the Red Team moves to the handrails. First, the team members wrap a large rope around a dowel. Screws are used to attach the rope to the dowel (figure A).
- Next, the team notches, then interlocks round posts and cross braces, before attaching the rope-covered handrails to the round posts (figure B).
- Chains are attached to the bottom of the round posts using lag bolts.
- The team cuts composite decking to various sizes to create a rugged walkway. Then, three 1/4" holes are drilled into each plank (which will be chained together).
Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
- The Blue Team seems to be building a design very similar to the Red Team's bridge. First, the team drills large holes into the bottom beams of the structure.
- Next, the team begins stringing the four stepping planks together with rope ( figure C), which is looped through beams.
