    Red Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 1 a.m.)

    • After developing a suspension design, the Red Team starts sawing boards and swinging hammers. First, the team cuts and trims the end of support posts.

    • Next, the team uses an air nailer to attach square wood supports to the bottoms of the posts (figure A).

    • Then, angle notches are cut on the four posts and the ends of two 4x4 cross braces using a circular saw.

    • A chisel is used to smooth out the notches (figure B) before the posts and cross braces are interlocked.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (9 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

    • The Blue Team is going bananas deciding on a concept. Even as the team decides to forge ahead with a plan that included a swinging platform, ropes and a jungle-themed roof, one of the team members is still in disagreement.

    • The team moves forward with the design, gathering 4x6 beams for the four posts that will anchor the structure.

    • Next, notches are cut into the vertical posts and the beams for the bridge base.

    • The team uses a spade bit to drill holes through the posts (figure C) for the insertion of support rope.

    • Wooden planks (for the walking surface) are cut to size using a circular saw (figure D).
