Red Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.) - The competition's almost over, and the Red Team is almost finished. The team tiles the floor in front of the fireplace, securing the tiles with tile adhesive (figure A).
- For a relaxing fireside experience, the team builds a padded, fabric-covered seat (figure B) and adds throw pillows.
Blue Team Activity Journal (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.) - The Blue Team glues copper tiles along the top of the fireplace, centering them between the 12" x 12" tiles (figure C).
- To complete the project, the team then cuts a picture frame to place above the mantel and paints all the decorative molding white (figure D).
The Final Moment It's time to put down the tools and relax in front of cozy fire -- well, not quite. Now the teams have to face the judging and scoring portions of the competition. Score Summary: While the judges admired the Blue Team's nature-inspired design, they didn't quite warm to it. Instead, the judges awarded the high score to the Red Team for a cohesive design and creative use of available materials. Base scores are determined using a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest.
