Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
- With construction of the roof complete, the team lifts it into place atop the support posts (figure A).
- The roof structure doesn't fit in the metal connectors atop the posts, so adjustments must be made. Once the roof fits, end rafters are added (figure B).
- Lattice is added to the roof, and 2x4s are cut for the gazebo railings.
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
- Although the Red Team has almost completed its gazebo design, the Blue Team is just beginning its roof support structure. First they cut support posts and roof frame boards.
- While positioning the support posts, team members decide to notch the posts ( figure C) to fit around the deck area.
- After the posts have been notched, they are secured and the octagonal roof is framed (figure D).
- Rafters are cut for the roof. The team decides to add a touch of "Biltmore" to the project and opts for decorative ends on the rafters.
