Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
- The "Drills and Frills" Red Team begins adding details to the island. First, copper sheeting is nailed to each end of the island (figure A), before being framed with trim molding that has been cut to the appropriate size. The team attaches the molding using finishing nails (figure B).
- Next, the team measures and cuts molding for use around the countertop.
- The molding is attached, with a "lip" left for the application of tiles.
- The team sands all rough edges and fills the nail holes with putty for a more finished look.
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
- While the Red Team is busy adding details, the Blue Team begins measuring and cutting plywood for the top of the island. The sink and countertop measurements are transferred to the plywood, and openings are cut.
- Next, the plywood is measured and cut for the prep counter (figure C) , the desktop, and finally, the eating surface.
- Once the plywood is cut, the team attaches it to the different island surface (figure D).
