    Red Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • The Red Team begins assembling the swing structure using 4 x 6 posts attached with lag screws. A cross-brace is added for stability.

    • The team realizes the structure won't safely support the weight of a large swing, and rethinks the design. After discussing their options (figure A), the team decides to build a smaller swing.

    • The upright supports are cut to accommodate a smaller swing.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

    • While the Red Team's swing goes through a re-design, the Blue Team proceeds with their deck assembly.

    • First, the team measures and cuts 2 x 6s for the floor joists and attaches the joists to the deck frame using nails and screws.

    • The team begins measuring and cutting composite decking material and measures and cuts 2 x 4s for railings (figure B).
