Both teams are even at halftime and unknowingly have built almost identical structures. Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The Red Team decides to divide and conquer: while one team member measures and cuts lumber for the A-frame structure that will support the swing, the other two attach railings and balusters to the platform (figure A).
- A rope ladder is attached before the team measures and cuts lumber for the swing beam (figure B).
Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) - The Blue Team starts the second half by attaching decking to the upper platform (figure C), then attaches the rope ladder.
- A fireman's pole is added to the outer frame of the structure (figure D).
- After securing the pole, the team measures and cuts lumber for the railings -- which they have determined will be 40" high.
- To complete the upper deck, the team attaches railings and sets balusters 4" to 5" apart.
