    Red Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

    • The Red Team uses angle brackets and screws to attach 4 x 6 posts to the rafter assembly.

    • After the posts are in place, the team uses a forklift to raise the arbor into an upright position (figure A).

    • While the forklift is still supporting the weight of the arbor, the team checks measurements and levels the 4 x 6 posts.

    • A paddle bit is used to drill holes into the arbor for the insertion of copper pipe.

    Blue Team Activity Journal (1 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

    • The Blue Team proceeds by trimming the wood to achieve a ragged -- yet tapered -- effect (figure B).

    • The team then uses the same trimming technique as used on the pedestal to create a smaller arm.
