With the walls painted and the wainscoting paneling installed in the Detroit Tigers' recreation room, the walls still could use a little finishing. So, the team puts in molding along the top and bottom of the wainscoting. DIY to the Rescue host Amy Devers shows one of the Detroit pitchers how to cut and install the molding. She also shares a tip on finishing off the ends of the trim.

Materials and Tools:molding miter saw hammer nails wood strips pencil stud finder nail gun wood glue painters tape
Steps:1. Start by cutting the molding to the length of the wall (figure A). 2. To prevent the ends of the molding from looking unfinished, cut two small pieces on a miter (at a 45 degree angle) to act as a cap or transition piece (figure B).
3. To intall the molding, first start by nailing little strips of wood along the wall. This will take up the space between the molding and the wall so that the molding will lay flat against the wall and the wainscoting...not creating an angle.4. Make marks on the wall where the studs are.
5. Place the molding on the wall and nail into place using your stud marks as a guide (figures C and D).
6. Finally, glue the transition pieces onto the ends of the mitered molding (figure E) to finish off the corners. Apply just enough glue so that it doesn't ooze out the edges. Tape the pieces into place with painters tape until the glue dries (figure F).
