  • Wainscoting Walls
  • Rescue takes it home for with the Tigers with a Rec Room makeover.
    From "DIY to the Rescue"
    episode DTTR-701

With a little help from DIY to the Rescue, the Detroit Tigers get an update to their rec room. The players and hosts Karl Chambley and Amy Devers start by painting the walls a Tiger blue. And then Nathan Haun teaches one teammate how to properly measure and cut the wainscoting panels. While several players finish up painting the walls, Karl Champley gives another player a lesson in installing the wainscoting.

    Steps:

    1. Start by determining the measurements that will be needed to cover the desired part of the wall. Mark the wainscoting panels accordingly.

    2. Cut with circular saw according to the marks previously made (figure A).

    3. Repeat the process for the rest of the panels (figure B). Make sure to cut holes for any outlets. Dril holes in opposing corners of the outlet outline and cut out hole with reciprocating saw (figure C).

    4. Now it's time to put the panels onto the wall. Add a line of adhesive (figure D) a couple of inches in from the edge of the panel (figure E). This will prevent the adhesive from oozing out the edges.

    5. Press the panel into place on the wall (figure F). Then take it back off the wall (figure G). Doing this transfers the adhesive to the wall. Then press back into place.

    6. To keep the wainscoting in place while the adhesive dries, install panel clips along the top and bottom of the panel (figure H).

    7. Repeat the process with the remaining panels.
