    Fix#2: Upgrade Dryer Vents

    Materials:

    cordless drill
    drywall saw
    aluminum flex duct
    aluminum tape
    metal straps
    screws
    drywall
    drywall tape
    drywall joint compound

    • First, remove the vent panel.

    • ut through the drywall to expose the old duct work and remove the old flex duct (figure A).

    • Now you can install the new aluminum flex duct. Begin by connecting the new flex duct to the old in the ceiling and seal them with aluminum tape (figures B and C).

    • Secure the duct every few feet with metal straps and screws between the studs (figure D).

    • Near the floor, create a 90-degree angle in the duct and install a metal access panel around it. This is where it will connect to the dryer (figure E).

    • Once all the connections are made, re-install the drywall with tape and joint compound.

    • For a finishing touch, install a new exterior dryer vent. Begin by first removing the old vent (figure F).

    • Then install the new vent and place the cover. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions (figures G and H).
