Repairing and Updating the Old Plumbing

    1. Turn off the water and disconnect the unions to the old faucet (figure A).

    2. Take the old faucet off of the sink bracket and unscrew the galvanized pipes from the copper.

    3. Cut the pipes to size with reciprocating saw.

    4. Use a pipe threader (figure B) to make threads on the new 1/2" galvanized pipe.

    5. Use a pipe-joint compound -- or Teflon tape -- to seal the threads, and screw the new pipes back into the copper pipes.

    6. At the bottom of the pipes add more joint compound and attach the T-cuff links (figure C).

    7. Then the lower feed pipes, and the new pipes get attached to the faucet.

    8. Screw in the new faucets for the washer.

    9. Install the new appliances, and be sure to hire a professional to hook-up the gas line for the dryer.

What started out as a dark, dingy, cluttered laundry room is now a fresh, organized and newly equipped laundry and storage room!
