Kentucky Wood Floors has specialized in custom wood flooring since 1977. As soon as kiln dried lumber arrives at the shop, it goes into a surface planer. Next, a rip saw cuts the wood down to size. A molder cuts the tongue and groove edges into the wood.
Some of the wood then goes to a table saw to be mitered. Those pieces are used for custom designs. An air pressurized table secures the wood designs and draws the pieces tightly together.
The rest of the wood becomes planks. The planks go through an industrial belt sander to prep the wood for the finish line. On the finish line, the wood is stained and given several coats of urethane for durability and shine. The 170-foot finish line takes just over 7 minutes from start to finish. It can run about 10,000 square feet of flooring in a day.
