Wes heats his pottery to 1900 degrees then uses tongs to place the pottery on a bed of sawdust. It's then covered with a metal tub that has a combustible inside; such as newspaper. The combustible smolders when covered. The pottery remains covered for about 30 minutes and is then cooled in water. This process gives the pottery its distinct color.
