Kim builds a mirror that is five feet by six feet using a variety of different power tools. She uses a joiner to get a flat surface for the face of the mirror. Then she uses a planer to make sure the surface is smooth. A table saw rips the board to the proper width. A miter saw crosscuts the corners of the piece.A mortiser cuts holes into the wood for the joints. Kim says it relies on the principle of a long grain to long grain connection.
She also uses a router table to create rabbets for the mirror and backing. The router table is also used to make a decorative edge inside the mirror frame.
