Coppersmith Ben Caldwell shares the handmade tools he fashioned to practice his craft.
Ben Caldwell makes unusual pieces out of copper. Some of the tools he uses are just as unique as his work:- Cutting shears are used to cut through pieces of copper; while a rolling press is used to "thin" copper wire that will later wrap around the handles of serving pieces he creates.
- Large copper salad bowls are created from a hollowed-out stump used as a mold. A hammer made from an old porch post and axe handle is used to shape the bowl.
- A stake is created from a tractor part. A ball peen hammer is pounded against the polished tractor part to create textured surfaces on the pieces he creates.
- A small rolling forklift -- also invented by Ben -- helps him remove pieces from his kiln during the enameling process.
- Another one of Bens inventions is a small rolling forklift that helps him remove pieces from his kiln during the enameling process.
