  • Table Saws and Unconventional Artwork: Old Tools, New Techniques
  • From "DIY Tools & Techniques"
    episode DIT-216

Host David Thiel introduces guest David Knudtson,an artist using old tools in new ways.

David Knudston creates artwork using his router and lathe. He uses a wood cylinder on his lathe to create spirals on an aluminum tube. He then covers the wooden tube with sandpaper. Then, David sands the ends of the wooden spirals to make a perfect match, which connects smoothly to the aluminum. He also creates a groove through an already spiraled piece of wood, with a series of wedges and right-angled screws. David says that the hardest and most creative part of the process is adjusting the tools to create the design.
