A viewer of sent in a great idea for a jig to use with a portable router table. It's a fence the can be used with a router bit that doesn't have a bearing (figure A). The fence will help the wood track where it needs to go -- without cutting all the way into the bit.To make the fence, start with two pieces of wood that are exactly the same size; the face and the base (figure B). Using a jigsaw, cut a hole into each piece. This will allow the router bit to have clearance to get into the space. If cutting rounded holes, use a spindle sander to sand the inside of the opening.
When holes are cut, screw the base perpendicular to the face with the opening facing each other. Finally, attach four right angle triangle braces (figure C) to keep the face perfectly perpendicular to the base. This will ensure that the fence is square for your cut.
