Host David Thiel explains how a shaper (figure A) can take routing to a new level.
Tips to Remember:
A shaper removes more material in a single pass (figure B) than a router.
When running your stock through the shaper, make sure it is tight against the in-feed fence. Also, make sure the fence is adjusted (figure C) so that it picks up flush on the out-feed fence.
If the shaper is equipped with this type of adjustable fence, fit them around the profile of the cutter head.
The fence will adjust front to back as well.
Since the cutters (figure D) on a shaper are large, check to make sure that the spindle runs true by using a dial indicator.
Adjust for height to access all, or a portion of the cutter.
Test the table for flatness.
Maintain the shaper to keep it cutting accurately.

Remember to keep safety guards in place when operating the shaper.
Keep your hands well away from the cutting head.
