    Proper brick laying technique

    1. Put water on the board to keep the mortar from drying out.

    2. Make sure mortar is of the right consistency.

    3. Set the base (figure A).

    4. Align the edge (figure B).

    5. Set the brick and tap it lightly into place with the end of the trowel.

Safety Tip: Remember to follow all manufacturers' instructions, and wear any necessary safety equipment when working with masonry tools and materials.

    Tips to Remember:

    • When working near corners of masonry, you can draw a line in the middle of a brick to use as a reference guide.

    • Select a trowel that is of the size and weight that you would feel comfortable using over a period of time.

    • Be sure that the joint you choose is waterproof if used on an exterior surface. Some decorative joints are not waterproof.
