David shows you a Cool Tool that makes cutting grooves simple: a router bit version of an adjustable dado stack.To get a wider cutting area, simply loosen the nut on the end of the bit and turn the knob just above the nut. The teeth on the bit will separate from one another, giving you a wider cutting area. You can cut up to a 1/4" slot with this router bit. Larger bits will make cuts to about 1/2" (figure A)
