Gregs new outdoor cabinet is starting to take shape. With the double-hinged doors in place, Karl and Greg add safety latches to the inside of the cabinet then install siding to make the cabinet match the rest of the home.
Finishing the Closet Doors- Install a foot-controlled latch on the front corners of the base to hold the side doors in place (figure A). The doors will fully open only when the latch is released, keeping them from simply flopping open whenever the closet is opened.
- Also install a sliding latch at the top of each of the side door panels to help hold the sides in place (figure B).
Paint the siding material as desired. Use a paint designed for the type of siding used, and follow the manufacturers instructions for drying time.Install the J-tracks that will hold the siding in place.Wearing safety glasses, use a miter saw to cut the siding to the right length.Slide the siding pieces into the J-tracks (figure C). Add two nails to the face piece to hold it in place, but be careful not to nail the siding tight against the wood. A little "wiggle room" allows for the material to expand and contract with shifts in the weather. Check the manufacturer's instructions on where to place the nails; different brands have different recommendations.
