    7. Measure across the front of the V from wall to wall. Almost without a doubt your walls are out of square, flaring or pinching the V's opening. That's okay.

    8. Whatever the measurement across the face of the V is, that's the diagonal support's short-to-short measurement. (A short-to-short measurement is the length of the shorter side of the board with mitered cuts on the ends.) Measuring Tip: Cut a 45-degree miter off one end of a 2x4. Pull your tape from its short point to whatever your measurement is. Mark that point; it is the short point of the second miter, so you can cut accordingly.

    9. Cut and install the diagonal brace (Photo 7).

    10. On your plywood, measure 48 inches on the long side. Snap a line from your mark to the corner, and cut along the line.

    11. Install the plywood shelf surface using 1-5/8-inch drywall screws (Photo 8).

    12. Load the shelf. You are now officially in business.
