- Unpack all the pieces in the kit, find the instructions and organize all the pieces for efficient assembly.
- Use a level to mark placement of steel closet track, or use a 360-degree laser level to determine position on all four walls (in this example) at once.
- Use stud finder to locate and mark studs.
- Cut track as needed. In this example, a molly bolt (figure A) is used to secure the track into the plaster in a corner where no stud is located. The rest of the screws should secure the track directly into the studs.
- Lock vertical (figure B) and horizontal panels (figure C) into place.
- Assemble the drawers by adding the decorative drawer panels to the front. In this example, Brenda assembles the drawers while host Michael Ray and homeowner Mike cut baseboards away as needed to allow the base of the hutch to fit. Drawers are added to the hutch (figure D).
- Next, add hanging units. Because Brenda wanted lots of hanging space, a hydraulic lift is added to allow her to efficiently utilize upper spaces (figure E).
- Add accessories as desired. In Brenda and Mike's new closet, a vanity is assembled, then a fold-away ironing board (figure F), additional shelves, baskets and a window seat are added.
- Host Michael Ray Wisely assists homeowner Mike in adding crown molding to the upper edges of the closet units. 45-degree miters are cut at the corners and wood screws are used to secure the molding.
- Wooden window blinds and custom mirrors are added to further personalize the closet. The mirrors are held in place by j-molding and mirror clips. Belt racks, coat racks, tie hooks, a valet rod and new light fixtures add the fnishing touches.
