    From "DIY to the Rescue"
    episode DTTR-113

    (Continued from page 1)

    4. Use countersink drill bit to pre-drill holes in the mounting strips. Lift cabinet onto wall and check for level and plumb, using shims where necessary.

    5. Secure in place using 3-inch wood screws into the pre-drilled mounting holes (figure B).

    6. Trim shims where necessary using a utility knife to score them before breaking them off.

    7. Install doors and other hardware.

    8. With the wall cabinets in place, move to the base cabinet installation. First, remove
doors and hardware from cabinet before installing. For the Grays' room, the crew removes the baseboard in the area of the cabinet by measuring and cutting the board, then prying it away from the wall (figure C), then installs a vapor barrier to cover the open area of the wall (figure D).

    9. Next, locate studs in the wall and transfer the measurements of the locations to the top and bottom mounting strips on the cabinets.

    10. Pre-drill holes in the mounting strips with a countersink drill bit.
